Dear Friends
Lord, Teach us to Pray It happened that while Jesus was praying in a certain place, when He had finished, one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John also taught his disciples.” (Luke 11:1 - NASB)
How simple. Jesus provided the greatest model of prayer ever spoken by anyone. We have that pattern to help us "find our way to express our heart before the Father." Holy Spirit customizes our prayers as we fellowship with Him.
"And in a similar way, the Holy Spirit takes hold of us in our human frailty to empower us in our weakness. For example, at times we don’t even know how to pray, or know the best things to ask for. But the Holy Spirit rises up within us to super-intercede on our behalf, pleading to God with emotional sighs too deep for words." (Romans 8:26 - The Passion Translation)
Over the years, many people have asked Sue and me to pray for them concerning some type of increase in their life. From job opportunities to promotions, to business opportunities, success in sales presentations and so on.
These requests led us to inquiring of the Lord about how to pray for people. (Lord, teach us to pray.) He led us to this verse and taught us these truths.
Now the boy Samuel was growing in stature and in favor both with the LORD and with men. (1 Samuel 2:26 - NASB)
Pray for them for BOTH stature and FAVOR
He said to us, If you only ask Me for favor, that will "get them in the door," so to speak. So I don't want you to only pray for favor. I want you to ask Me to grant them favor with stature and wisdom. So that when they "get in the door," they demonstrate the depth of character that allows Me to shine through them. Daniel and Joseph were brought to a crucial moment where favor opened doors. But, their level of competence was demonstrated by their stature and wisdom.
Always ask Him how He wants you to pray.
Your prayers, guided by Holy Spirit, cooperate with heaven to supply what is needed in the moment for those who asked you to pray.
A great man of prayer named E.M. Bounds said this: "The prayers of God's saints are the capital stock of heaven by which God carries on His great work upon earth. God conditions the very life and prosperity of His cause on prayer."
Blessings!
